A former Democratic strategist is warning that his party’s relentless attacks on Elon Musk’s effort to slash wasteful government spending are backfiring.

Dan Turrentine, co-host of The Morning Meeting, called the Democrats’ approach “terrible” during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, arguing that their knee-jerk opposition to Musk’s cost-cutting measures at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is making them look foolish to voters, as reported by Fox News.

When asked about the Democratic Party’s furious pushback against Musk’s reforms, Turrentine didn’t hold back.

Elon Musk Called This Financial News 'Terrifying'

“Terrible,” he said flatly.

“We’re failing the common sense test rather than saying, ‘Hey, some of what they’re finding, anybody in their right mind would say, we should end it.’”

Instead of acknowledging areas of real government waste, Democrats have opted to “scream about everything,” he said, making it impossible for voters to take their complaints seriously.

The irony is glaring: for years, Democrats claimed to support eliminating government waste, fraud, and abuse. Now, with Musk exposing absurd spending—ranging from overpriced office supplies to bloated DEI programs—they’ve launched an all-out war to protect the status quo.

Musk’s initiative has sparked a legal onslaught from left-wing attorneys general, while Democrat lawmakers have taken to the streets to protest the crackdown on unnecessary federal spending.

Even former Obama administration aides seem to realize how ridiculous this all looks. On Pod Save America, Obama-era speechwriters Jon Favreau and Jon Lovett admitted that some of Musk’s reforms are things they should have done themselves—but didn’t.

“Honestly, some of this is pretty annoying because it’s some of the stuff we should’ve done. We didn’t know you could do some of this.”

Favreau backed him up, saying the Obama administration tried to streamline government but found it nearly impossible to push back against the entrenched bureaucracy.

“We all know that government is slow. We all know government can be inefficient. We all know that the bureaucracy can be bloated. We all worked in the f—ing White House. We tried to reorganize the government. We tried to find efficiency. It’s hard to do.”

The left’s collective meltdown over DOGE has led to absurd accusations that Musk is overstepping his role, with some critics even dubbing him “President Elon Musk.” But in a sit-down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity alongside President Trump, Musk shrugged off the attacks.

“We must be over the target or doing something right,” he said. “They wouldn’t be complaining so much if we weren’t doing something useful.”

Musk then laid bare the real issue: an unelected, deeply entrenched federal bureaucracy that is determined to block the will of the people and sabotage the Trump administration’s efforts to reform Washington.

“There’s a vast federal bureaucracy that is implacably opposed to the president and the Cabinet,” Musk warned.

The backlash against DOGE shows exactly how desperate Democrats are to cling to power, even if it means defending the most absurd examples of government waste.

But as Turrentine pointed out, everyday Americans see through the noise—and the more Democrats scream, the more voters tune them out.
