Actor Mark Hamill experienced an unexpected wardrobe mishap while presenting the Best Film award at the 2025 BAFTA Awards on Sunday evening.

The 73-year-old Star Wars star was caught off guard when his suit trousers suddenly dropped to his knees as he spoke on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

While a lectern shielded the incident from television viewers, those seated in the front rows—among them celebrities such as Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, and Adrien Brody—reportedly had a clear view of the moment.

An audience member seated in the front row described the scene, telling The Sun, “Mark started speaking, then his suit trousers just dropped to his knees. It was like they were too big for him. All the big stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Adrien Brody would have seen it from their angle. Most guests looked horrified but said nothing.”

The source added, “They were turning to each other wide-eyed as if to say, ‘Did that just happen?’”

Despite the wardrobe mishap, Hamill continued presenting without interruption.

He began his speech by addressing the audience, stating, “If you’re in the room like me, you must love film—so what makes us love cinema so much that we’re all gathered here to celebrate tonight?”

As he spoke about the power of film, he appeared startled, quickly grabbing his trousers and pulling them back into place.

Maintaining his composure, he continued, “They create immersive cinematic landscapes that feel live whether they’re set here in London or anywhere you imagine they can take you.”

After recovering from the moment, Hamill proceeded to announce the nominees before revealing Conclave as the winner of Best Film.

The 2025 BAFTA Awards featured a night of major wins, with Conclave and The Brutalist leading the event with four awards each.

The ceremony was hosted by actor David Tennant, with several high-profile presenters handing out awards throughout the night.

Adrien Brody, 51, won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, while Mikey Madison, 25, took home Best Actress for her performance in the independent film Anora.

Conclave not only secured Best Film but also won Outstanding British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Editing. Director Edward Berger, accepting the award for Conclave, acknowledged the honor, stating, “It is a huge honor—Outstanding British Film—and I’m not even from here! I feel so welcome in your midst. We live in a time of crisis for democracy. Institutions that used to bring us together are used to pull us apart. Sometimes it is hard to keep the faith in that situation, but that’s why we make movies and that’s why we made this movie.”

The Brutalist also had a strong showing, winning Best Actor for Brody, Best Director for Brady Corbet, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.

In his acceptance speech, Brody expressed his appreciation for the support he has received in the U.K., saying, “I am so grateful. I want to thank the British public for embracing me and my creative endeavors. It is incredibly meaningful as England has felt quite a bit like home lately. I will cherish this, thank you all.”

Corbet, in his speech, reflected on the honor, stating, “I am humbled and very grateful. There is no such thing as best director, it’s like a joke.”

The BAFTA Awards once again celebrated achievements in film, recognizing both established and emerging talents in the industry.
