“But I came to the conclusion that the person best suited to be the United States senator is someone who has been close to me for the last six years, Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted.”

DeWine praised Husted’s deep understanding of Ohio’s needs, his conservative values, and his commitment to public service. Husted, who has served as lieutenant governor since 2019 and previously as Ohio Secretary of State, brings a wealth of experience to the Senate.

Accepting the appointment, Husted expressed gratitude: “Governor, I just want to say thank you. It is my honor to accept the appointment to serve the people of the state of Ohio in the U.S. Senate.”

JD Vance, who resigned from the Senate 10 days before his inauguration as vice president, left with a heartfelt message for Ohioans.

Newly sworn-in Senator Bernie Moreno praised Vance’s service, saying, “Ohio couldn’t be prouder of JD Vance! He has served our country with great honor… A truly amazing journey for an outstanding guy!”

Once Husted takes his Senate oath, the GOP will expand its majority to 53 seats, reinforcing its ability to advance President Trump’s America First agenda.

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott welcomed Husted to Washington, stating, “The people of Ohio will continue to have a conservative fighter representing them in Washington… Congratulations, Senator Husted!”

Ohioans will vote in a special election in November 2026 to decide who will complete the remainder of Vance’s term. Meanwhile, Florida is also seeing changes in its Senate lineup, with Governor Ron DeSantis appointing Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Marco Rubio once his resignation becomes official.

This reshuffling underscores the GOP’s focus on fortifying its influence across the nation. With leaders like Husted stepping up, conservatives can look forward to stronger representation and a reinforced commitment to the values that matter most to Americans.
