CNN’s Abby Phillip attempted to frame the deportation of illegal immigrants as too expensive, but Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) had no patience for the liberal narrative, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
In a fiery exchange, Lawler laid out the stark reality of the financial and societal chaos caused by unchecked illegal immigration, dismantling Phillip’s flimsy argument with facts and common sense.

Phillip questioned the feasibility of deportation, implying it would be prohibitively costly.

Tom Homan “doesn’t seem to have a sense of the scope—what it’s going to take, what it’s going to cost,” Phillip stated smugly. But Lawler countered with the bitter truth: doing nothing has already cost American taxpayers billions and has made communities across the nation less safe.
Lawler didn’t mince words, pointing out that states like New York are spending billions of dollars on housing, feeding, educating, and providing healthcare for illegal immigrants. Worse yet, sanctuary policies have allowed dangerous criminal aliens to wreak havoc on innocent Americans.

He highlighted a horrifying case where a criminal alien, previously deported under the Trump administration but allowed back into the country under Biden, committed an unspeakable act of violence by burning a woman alive on a New York subway.
Lawler stated: “And sanctuary states and cities like New York need to cooperate. This idea that you’re going to violate federal immigration law, that you’re going to use taxpayer money to provide all of these free things…It’s a joke.”

The congressman also lambasted New York Governor Kathy Hochul for her hypocrisy. While imposing a $2,500 congestion fee on hard-working citizens just for the privilege of driving into Midtown Manhattan, Hochul has funneled taxpayer dollars to support free services for illegal immigrants.

“This is the stuff that needs to stop,” Lawler said. “So yes, there is a price tag. Yes, it’s going to cost money. But the reality is we cannot continue to have this massive influx of illegal immigrants coming into the country. SSince Joe Biden took office, over ten and a half million people [came in]. That’s unsustainable, and it’s costing us billions of dollars.”

As the border crisis spirals out of control, the leaders of leftist-run cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, and Houston have begged the Biden administration for $5 billion in federal aid. These so-called sanctuary cities are buckling under the financial strain of their own immigration policies.
For years, border communities have shouldered the burden of illegal immigration. Now, liberal cities that once boasted about being safe havens for migrants are reeling from the consequences of their own policies. Rather than taking responsibility, they want taxpayers across the country to foot the bill.
Rep. Lawler’s sharp takedown of Phillip’s narrative served as a reminder of what’s at stake. The cost of inaction isn’t just measured in dollars; it’s measured in human lives and the erosion of law and order.
