President-elect Donald Trump is set to appoint Stephen Miller, his long-time immigration adviser and the architect behind his first-term immigration policies, as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy.
Miller’s role in the incoming administration will place him at the forefront of an aggressive immigration strategy centered on enforcing what is expected to be the most extensive deportation operation in U.S. history.

Miller, 39, was a key player in Trump’s 2016 campaign and served prominently in his first term, developing policies such as the travel ban and stricter measures at the U.S.-Mexico border, including the controversial family separation policy.
Miller has previously spoken about the scale of Trump’s intended immigration enforcement for his second term, suggesting it would involve a ten-fold increase in deportations.

In a September post on X (formerly Twitter), Miller detailed aspects of the immigration policies he envisioned, aiming to achieve a “100 percent perfect deportation rate.”
“Deploying Title 42/Safe 3rds/Remain in Mexico/Asylum Bars to achieve a one hundred percent perfect deportation rate at the border, finishing the wall, significantly enhancing criminal penalties for human smuggling and trafficking, and launching a DOD embargo of drug vessels from South America,” Miller outlined in his post.
Additionally, Miller indicated plans to roll back specific policies implemented by Vice President Kamala Harris, stating he would end “all of Kamala’s expedited entry and parole programs for illegals at the ports and by plane,” and terminate “all Harris-imposed limits on ICE enforcement operations.”
He also called for suspending refugee resettlement programs, reinstating and expanding the terror travel ban, and working with state and local partnerships under federal law enforcement to facilitate the largest domestic deportation operation in U.S. history.
The appointment has already garnered praise from notable conservative figures.
Republican Vice President-elect J.D. Vance expressed his support on X, writing, “This is another fantastic pick by the president. Congrats Stephen!”

Miller’s appointment represents a continuation of his influence within the Trump administration, where he previously helped shape and promote immigration policies aligning with Trump’s “America First” platform.

Miller’s hands-on role in crafting immigration policies during Trump’s first term is widely recognized, including his contributions to the 2017 travel ban and stricter immigration measures along the southern border.
Throughout the 2024 campaign, Miller remained a prominent advocate for Trump’s immigration agenda, frequently speaking before Trump at rallies and addressing what he called the negative effects of the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies.
His return to a senior position in the White House is expected to provide continuity in Trump’s approach to immigration reform.
In his new role as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, Miller will work closely with Susie Wiles, whom Trump appointed last week as White House Chief of Staff.
Miller’s policy direction is anticipated to align with the administration’s intent to prioritize border security, increase deportations, and implement stricter immigration policies, as promised during Trump’s campaign.
