A Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure, made headlines this Sunday for its swift action in rescuing four stranded boaters from a sinking catamaran off the coast of Bermuda.
As reported by The New York Post, the stranded vessel, a 50-foot catamaran named Serenity, encountered a serious problem when a gasket in its escape hatch failed, causing water to flood into the vessel. The incident took place approximately 230 miles from Bermuda, setting off a rapid series of rescue efforts.
Upon realizing the severity of their situation, Serenity‘s passengers called for immediate help. Fortunately, the Disney Treasure, a newly launched cruise ship based out of Port Canaveral, Florida, was able to answer the U.S. Coast Guard’s call for assistance.

Located around 80 miles away from the catamaran, the Disney Treasure deployed a smaller rescue boat to reach the distressed passengers, who were safely pulled aboard without any reported injuries.
“We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” said Captain Marco Nogara of the Disney Treasure in a statement.
According to Disney Cruise Line representatives, the Disney Treasure was en route from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to its Florida base in Port Canaveral at the time of the incident.
This vessel is part of Disney’s Triton-class fleet, making it the sixth and latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line’s roster. With 1,256 staterooms, this luxury cruise liner is set to kick off its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on December 21.
In a world where safety sometimes feels like a footnote, Disney’s swift response is noteworthy. The company’s proactive rescue mission underscores the importance of well-prepared crews and well-equipped ships when crises arise on the high seas.
