Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, voiced criticism of former President Donald Trump’s recent remarks made at a Pennsylvania rally, describing his comments as further proof of what she suggested could be cognitive issues.
Pelosi made these statements during an appearance on Jen Psaki’s MSNBC show, where she expressed concern over Trump’s statements on potential threats and the media’s presence.
At the Pennsylvania rally, Trump, referencing his setup on stage, mentioned the protective glass in front of him and noted that media outlets were positioned behind him without similar barriers.

“I have a piece of glass over here, and I don’t have a piece of glass there, and I have this piece of glass here,” Trump said. Referring to the media positioned behind him, he continued, “And to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news. And I don’t mind that so much.”

Pelosi responded by questioning Trump’s mental state. “I think what the ex-president just said is further indication of his cognitive degeneration,” she said.
Referencing Trump’s recent comments in New Hampshire about bizarre hypothetical choices involving sharks and electrocution, Pelosi stated, “Something’s very wrong there.” She also noted her concern over Trump’s remarks diminishing the press, which she described as “the guardian of our freedom in our country.”
Pelosi added that voters considering Trump should evaluate his current health and stamina for a full presidential term. “They may be voting for President Vance,” she said, referring to Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance. “Which would be a horrible thing for our country.”

In response, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung clarified the context of Trump’s comments, suggesting that they were a reference to threats against Trump himself, spurred, according to Cheung, by what he described as “dangerous rhetoric from Democrats.”
Cheung explained, “President Trump was brilliantly talking about the two assassination attempts on his own life, including one that came within a quarter of an inch from killing him, something that the media constantly talks and jokes about.”
Cheung emphasized that Trump’s remarks about the glass setup were not meant as a threat or insult to the media but as a comment on the need for protection. “The President’s statement about protective glass placement has nothing to do with the media being harmed or anything else. It was about threats against him that were spurred on by dangerous rhetoric from Democrats,” Cheung said in the statement.
Cheung also suggested that Trump’s comments reflected concern for the safety of the media. “In fact, President Trump was stating that the media was in danger, in that they were protecting him and, therefore, were in great danger themselves, and should have had a glass protective shield, also. There can be no other interpretation of what was said. He was actually looking out for their welfare, more than his own!”

Pelosi’s remarks come as the presidential race tightens, with Trump and his team addressing security concerns in light of past incidents.
Trump’s rally comments, and Pelosi’s response to them, illustrate the increasingly charged dialogue between the two parties as the election approaches.
