In honor of Veterans Day, Wheel of Fortune kicked off a special episode on Monday featuring three military service members as contestants, bringing lighthearted moments and memorable responses.

Among the contestants was Will Jordan, a Coast Guard veteran and seasoned police officer from Wethersfield, Connecticut, who quickly became a fan favorite with his humorous response to one of the puzzles.

During the first puzzle in the “Phrase” category, Will seemed well on his way to solving the six-word board.

With most of the second and fourth words filled, he attempted an answer.

However, instead of the correct phrase, “Give yourself a round of applause,” Will confidently said, “Treat yourself a round of sausage.”

Realizing his error immediately, Will took it in stride, laughing along with the audience and host Ryan Seacrest, who confirmed the answer was incorrect.

Kitina, the next contestant, promptly delivered the correct response, winning the round.

Seacrest joked with Will, saying, “Although, Will, I kind of liked yours better. That sounds better than just clapping right now,” drawing more laughter from the crowd.

Will, who currently works as a school resource officer, maintained a positive attitude throughout the game.

Although he didn’t win any money until the final puzzle, he managed to solve “Necklines and Hemlines” in the last round, earning $8,000.

He finished the game in third place behind Kitina, who earned $10,500, and Chantel, who secured the win with $13,000.

Chantel advanced to the bonus round after sweeping all three puzzles in the Triple Toss-Up round, but she was unable to solve “Online Auction,” missing out on a potential $100,000 prize.

“I want to bring awareness to these veterans, and if I could take this two seconds of the spin in the spotlight and really shine a light on them, that’s my mission moving forward.”

Following the show, Will met with Maggie Sajak, daughter of former host Pat Sajak, to discuss his memorable moment.

When Maggie asked how he felt in the heat of the moment, Will explained, “I just blanked. Yeah, I’ll tell you, when the lights are on and you know the stars, Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White, it’s… I just went blank.”

Demonstrating his good-natured attitude, Will joked that if Pat Sajak was watching in retirement, “maybe cracks a beer and has a laugh, it was worth it.”

Maggie responded with support, assuring him, “Be sure we tune in that night, that’s a promise.” Will acknowledged he would likely receive some ribbing back home, saying, “I’m sure I’m gonna have sausages in my locker and police car when I get back, so we’ll try to have some fun with it.”

Seacrest later returned with a signed cue card from the show, addressing it to the Jordan family. “This is really gonna be special,” Will said, as Maggie added her own signature and words of encouragement, assuring him, “Don’t worry about it, Will, even if they put sausages in your locker now.”

The lighthearted exchange ended with a photo, capturing the memorable moment.
