“Mike served in the Army Special Forces for 27 years, where he was deployed multiple times in combat and awarded four Bronze Stars, including two with Valor.” Waltz, a retired Colonel, is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

In his new position, Waltz will address a range of critical security issues, from U.S. military aid to Ukraine and growing threats in the Middle East, to concerns over the expanding partnership between Russia and North Korea.

He will also be involved in the ongoing push for a cease-fire between Israel and the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as countering Iran-backed attacks in the region.

Waltz, a congressman representing east-central Florida, first entered Congress in 2018 and recently won reelection.

As chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, he has advocated for a shift away from what he describes as “woke” military priorities and a focus on military readiness.

In a previous statement, he commented, “I am ready to get to work to better equip our military and turn our focus away from woke priorities and back to winning wars. Our national security depends on it.”

Throughout his time in Congress, Waltz has taken a strong stance on China, urging a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing over China’s role in the COVID-19 pandemic and its mistreatment of the Uighur population.

He has also been vocal about holding officials accountable for the withdrawal from Afghanistan, calling for justice for the 13 U.S. service members killed at Abbey Gate and for Americans and allies left behind.

Waltz’s military and government service spans decades.

After graduating with honors from Virginia Military Institute, he became a Green Beret and served in the Army Special Forces, completing multiple tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa.

In addition to his combat experience, he served in the Pentagon as a policy adviser during the tenures of Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates.

As he prepares to lead the National Security Council, Waltz’s extensive military and policy expertise will play a central role in shaping U.S. defense strategy and security policy during Trump’s upcoming term.

His appointment comes as the Trump administration seeks to address complex global challenges and advance a foreign policy rooted in “Peace through Strength.”
