CBS News is under scrutiny after it was revealed that the network edited out a portion of Kamala Harris’ interview on 60 Minutes, in which she struggled to respond coherently to a question about the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Vice President Kamala Harris walks on stage to speak at Throwback Brewery in North Hampton, Wednesday Sept. 4, 2024.

The original clip featured Harris offering a disjointed answer on the conflict, but this segment was removed from the final aired interview, sparking accusations of media bias and shielding Harris from criticism.

The interview, conducted by CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker, aired on Sunday and was intended to highlight Harris’ foreign policy knowledge as she navigates her 2024 presidential campaign.

As the Biden-Harris administration faces increasing pressure to address the escalating violence in the Middle East, Harris was asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s response to U.S. diplomatic efforts.

Whitaker posed the question, “But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening.” Harris’s response was filled with vague statements, drawing sharp criticism.

She responded, “Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region… We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

Viewers quickly pointed out that the response lacked clarity and substance, with many labeling it a “word salad.”

The backlash on social media was swift, with users accusing Harris of dodging the question and failing to offer any meaningful insight into the administration’s plans for addressing the conflict.

However, when the interview aired, this portion of Harris’ answer was conspicuously absent.

CBS edited the segment, replacing it with a shorter, more coherent response, raising questions about the network’s decision to intervene and what message that sends ahead of the 2024 election.

Many saw this move as an effort to protect Harris from further criticism, a tactic that critics say only fuels suspicions of media bias in favor of the Biden-Harris administration.

The situation comes as Israel intensifies its military campaign in southern Lebanon, with tensions rising between Israel and Hezbollah.

Israeli forces recently raised their flag near a Lebanese village, and Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the killing of Hezbollah’s new leader.

In response, Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets targeting Haifa and Galilee while backing ceasefire efforts.

As the conflict continues to evolve, the U.S. administration has faced increasing scrutiny over its handling of the situation, with Harris at the forefront of diplomatic discussions.

This isn’t the first time Harris’ public statements have raised eyebrows.

In recent months, she has faced numerous instances of being criticized for unclear or convoluted messaging.

Her interview on 60 Minutes is just the latest example of Harris struggling to deliver clear responses on complex issues, a challenge that could affect her credibility as she aims to distance herself from the more controversial aspects of the Biden administration.

The controversy surrounding the CBS interview also coincides with Harris ramping up her media appearances in an effort to reach a broader audience.

Over the weekend, she appeared on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy, which is geared towards younger female voters.

She has also been featured on The View…

And an upcoming appearance scheduled on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show.

These media stops are part of a larger strategy to boost Harris’ visibility as she prepares for the 2024 election.

However, the 60 Minutes incident has thrown a wrench into those efforts, casting doubt on whether Harris can effectively communicate on critical issues like the Middle East conflict.

As the election season heats up, Republicans are likely to seize on this latest episode as evidence that Harris is ill-prepared to handle major crises.

Meanwhile, CBS News faces growing criticism over its decision to edit out what many see as an important and revealing moment in the vice president’s interview.

How this will impact Harris’ campaign remains to be seen, but the incident has certainly raised questions about both her foreign policy acumen and the media’s role in shaping public perception.
