As the U.S. presidential election approaches, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa made his political stance clear during a nationally televised post-game interview on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old player displayed a “Make America Great Again” cap, signaling his support for former President Donald Trump, just as his teammates were giving their post-victory interview.

Bosa interrupted the interview with quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and running back Isaac Guerendo, joining NBC reporter Melissa Stark to show off his cap and pointing to it for emphasis.

Stark acknowledged the gesture, responding, “Alright, Nick Bosa with a message there,” as the players chuckled in response.

Bosa briefly spoke about the incident later during the post-game press conference.

Bosa, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has a well-known history of supporting Trump.

His outspoken political views have drawn attention since before he was drafted by the 49ers in 2019, when he frequently shared pro-Trump content on social media.

This support has drawn mixed reactions, especially from fans in the liberal-leaning Bay Area, where Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, has deep political roots.

Ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, Bosa’s agent deleted some of his previous social media posts, which included critical comments about public figures in Black culture.

Among the deleted tweets were criticisms of activist and former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, comments about NBA star Dwyane Wade, and disparaging remarks about the Marvel film Black Panther and musician Beyoncé.

Bosa reportedly called Kaepernick a “clown” and referred to Black Panther as the “worst Marvel movie.”

Despite the backlash, Bosa has not concealed his admiration for Trump, once calling him “a big fan,” noting, “He brings a charisma that no other candidate has had in my lifetime.”

This past year, Bosa also had the opportunity to meet the former president at a UFC event, where he posed for a photo with Trump and NFL quarterback Joe Burrow.

Trump advisor Dan Scavino later posted the image to social media.

Though Bosa has kept a relatively low profile regarding his political views since joining the NFL, his appearance with the MAGA hat on Sunday night reinforced his position as one of the openly conservative voices among high-profile athletes in the league.
