A family attending Sunday’s San Francisco 49ers game at Levi’s Stadium claims they were denied entry because a family member was wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat, sparking discussions over free speech and stadium policies.

The incident was captured in a TikTok video, where a woman shared that stadium security initially stopped her son-in-law from entering due to his MAGA hat. “We were about to enter, and they stopped us because my son-in-law is wearing this hat,” she said, explaining that the issue persisted despite the family passing through earlier security checks.

In the video, the woman shared her frustration, describing the situation as a disappointing experience for her family, particularly as it was supposed to be a memorable first game for their children. “What was meant to be a fun, first-time experience for our kids turned out to be an eye-opener to us,” the woman’s caption read.

She added that she hadn’t planned to post the video but felt compelled to share her experience after seeing statements promoting inclusivity at the stadium, as well as 49ers player Nick Bosa wearing a similar hat in a previous post-game setting.

The video goes on to show another woman in the family confronting stadium security, asking why policies were allegedly enforced without any prior notice on ticket purchase or signage. “How are you going to apply policies after I purchased my ticket?” she asked.

@ailynnespino So what was meant to be a fun first time experience for our kids turned out to be an eye opener to us. I wasnt going to share but even after seeing the field state “vote it takes all of us” and bosa flashing his hat in the camera I felt we were being discrminated against. This is usually stuff you see on social media but never a thought it would happen to you. We are so disappointed in @San Francisco 49ers Levis Stadium. We were stopped after we scanned in tickets and security check points, by one male asking my husband to either throw away the hat or leave the stadium. It lead to 30-45 min of arguing and missing the beginning of the game just for the supervisor to let us through. Thank you too all the people who stopped and spoke up as this happened. #MAGA #levisstadium #vote #election #49ers #veteran @President Donald J Trump @J.D. Vance ♬ original sound – ailynnespino

Following a 30-45 minute delay and discussions with a supervisor, the family was eventually permitted to enter the stadium, missing the start of the game.

The family thanked bystanders who spoke up on their behalf, describing the support they received from other fans during the encounter.

The incident surfaces amid recent attention to MAGA hats at Levi’s Stadium.

Just days earlier, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa made headlines by wearing a MAGA hat in a post-game interview, which prompted a question from a reporter. “Why did you take that opportunity to make what appeared to be a political statement?” the reporter asked.

Bosa responded, “I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time.”

This episode raises ongoing conversations around sports venues, freedom of expression, and policies governing fan attire in stadiums across the country.
