In a move that may have been expected by her fans, pop singer Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
Known for her vocal political opinions, particularly those leaning towards Democratic candidates, Swift has once again put her star power behind a high-profile politician.
However, despite her considerable fame and the loyalty of her fanbase, the endorsement appears to have fallen flat among the broader voting population.

This is not Swift’s first foray into political endorsements.
In the 2018 midterm elections, she supported Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, and in 2020, she publicly threw her support behind the Biden-Harris ticket.
Her political positions, often aligned with progressive causes like climate action and LGBTQ+ rights, are no secret to those who follow her closely.
Thus, her endorsement of Harris was no real surprise, particularly given Harris’s alignment with many of the issues Swift champions.
Still, for all her influence in the music world, Swift’s political endorsement may not have the impact she hoped for.
A YouGov poll released last Saturday suggests that Swift’s backing of Harris has done little to sway voters.
According to the poll, only 8% of respondents stated they were “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote Democrat because of Swift’s endorsement.
In a striking contrast, 20% of respondents claimed they were now “somewhat” or “much less likely” to support Harris following the singer’s announcement.
Perhaps most tellingly, a full 66% of those surveyed said that Swift’s endorsement made no difference at all in their voting intentions.
These numbers suggest that, while Swift’s fanbase may be substantial, her ability to influence political outcomes is limited. Even among those who identify as “Swifties,” the poll did not show overwhelming enthusiasm for the endorsement’s effect on the election.
Thirty-four percent of the survey’s respondents were identified as fans of Swift, and of those, the largest group were female, registered Democrats who were already planning to vote for Harris.
This indicates that Swift’s support may be more a reflection of her own political alignment with her fanbase than a factor capable of swaying undecided voters.
Interestingly, reactions to the poll results were mixed on social media. Some found humor in the fact that a celebrity endorsement had so little effect, despite Swift’s massive cultural influence.
Others speculated that Swift’s status as a wealthy celebrity might disconnect her from the lived experiences of millions of Americans, particularly those struggling with economic challenges.
While Swift has been vocal on issues like gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights, critics argue that her immense wealth and success may hinder her ability to resonate with working-class voters.
Ultimately, the results of the YouGov poll underscore the complex relationship between celebrity and politics. While some celebrities have successfully influenced public opinion and political outcomes, Swift’s endorsement appears to have made little difference in this election cycle.
For Harris, the endorsement may have even done more harm than good, given the 20% of voters who are now less inclined to support her because of Swift’s backing.
As the election draws nearer, it remains to be seen whether other celebrity endorsements will carry more weight, or if voters will continue to prioritize policy over personality when making their decisions.
For now, Taylor Swift’s star power seems to have little impact on the political stage.
