Former First Lady Melania Trump has publicly condemned the FBI’s 2022 raid on her Mar-a-Lago home, expressing her disbelief and frustration over the government’s invasion of her privacy.

In a video posted on the social media platform X on Saturday, Melania reflected on the raid, which was conducted as part of an investigation into her husband, former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified materials.

“I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here in America,” Melania said. She continued, “The FBI raided my home in Florida and searched through my personal belongings. This is not just my story; it serves as a warning to all Americans, a reminder that our freedom and rights must be respected.”

The raid occurred on August 8, 2022, when FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, seeking classified documents that the government claims should have been transferred from the White House to the National Archives after Trump left office.

In 2023, Trump was indicted for allegedly retaining classified material and obstructing efforts to recover the documents. While the case was dismissed in July by Judge Aileen Cannon, Special Counsel Jack Smith continues efforts to have it reinstated.

Melania’s video concluded with an advertisement for her upcoming memoir, titled “Melania,” which is set to be released on October 1. The book is available for pre-order on her website and is expected to share personal stories and never-before-seen images from her life.

Meanwhile, former President Trump is pursuing legal action against the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the FBI’s raid.

His legal team, led by attorney Daniel Epstein, is seeking $100 million in damages, accusing the DOJ of conducting the search with the “clear intent to engage in political persecution.”

Epstein argued that the raid was executed without proper adherence to protocols, saying, “What President Trump is doing here is not just standing up for himself – he is standing up for all Americans who believe in the rule of law and believe that you should hold the government accountable when it wrongs you.”

He also claimed that the decisions made by Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray were inconsistent with legal standards and constitutional principles.

“The FBI’s demonstrated activity was inconsistent with protocols used in routine searches of an investigative target’s premises,” Epstein wrote.

He further emphasized that Trump had “a clear expectation of privacy at Mar-a-Lago,” and the FBI’s raid represented “a severe and unacceptable intrusion that is highly offensive to a reasonable person.”

Epstein also announced plans to seek punitive damages of $100 million, arguing that the government’s actions caused significant harm to Trump’s reputation and violated his rights.

He criticized the raid as a clear case of political persecution, not law enforcement.

This legal battle comes as Melania Trump continues to promote her memoir. In her video posts, she has discussed both the raid and the recent assassination attempt on her husband.

On Tuesday, she posted a video raising concerns about the July 13 attempt, questioning the response and calling for more information to be revealed.

“The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience,” she said. “Now, the silence around it feels heavy. I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?”

Melania has urged the country to “reunite” and to use common sense and courage to bring Americans back together.

Her memoir promises to share intimate details of her life, with the book’s description stating it will offer “the powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has defined personal excellence, overcome adversity, and carved her own path.”
