Vice President Kamala Harris is once again in the spotlight for changing her stance on a key issue. This time, it’s the filibuster. In a recent interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Harris expressed her support for eliminating the Senate filibuster to pass federal legislation on abortion rights. Her remarks are a departure from her previous position, as reported by Townhall.

During the interview, Harris called for restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide until it was overturned in 2022.

“I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom,” Harris said. She argued that it’s time for women to have control over their bodies without interference from the government.

This new stance is a dramatic shift from Harris’s previous position. Back in 2017, Harris signed a letter supporting the preservation of the filibuster. The letter, circulated by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), was posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In it, Harris and other senators wrote, “We are writing to urge you to support our efforts to preserve existing rules, practices, and traditions as they pertain to the right of Members to engage in extended debate on legislation before the United States Senate.”

The letter also emphasized the importance of maintaining the Senate’s role as the “world’s greatest deliberative body.” Yet now, Harris is ready to toss aside that principle when it comes to her party’s agenda. Sen. Cotton wasn’t shy about calling out Harris’s inconsistency. “Her word is meaningless,” Cotton stated. “She’ll say anything to get elected.”

This isn’t the first time Harris has reversed her position on a major issue. She’s flip-flopped on a range of topics, including fracking, border security, and gun rights, seemingly to adjust to the political winds and appeal to whichever audience she is trying to court at the moment. As Harris continues to change positions on key issues, her credibility and trustworthiness will likely come under further scrutiny, raising doubts among both critics and even some of her own supporters.
