Police reportedly discovered explosives near the venue for former President Donald Trump’s rally on Long Island, New York, just hours before he was scheduled to address supporters.

Former president Donald Trump talks about the assassination attempt on him as he speaks to an audience during a town hall meeting at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

The discovery adds to growing concerns about security surrounding Trump, who has faced multiple assassination attempts in recent months.

According to sources within the Nassau County Police Department, a K9 unit conducting a routine sweep near the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, where Trump is set to speak, found what appeared to be an explosive device in a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled into nearby woods, prompting an immediate search.

The explosive device was found following a breach of the rally site’s perimeter, where law enforcement reportedly removed a blue barrel from the area.

The identity and whereabouts of the driver remain unknown at this time.

A source told journalist James Lalino of One America News Network that, after the discovery, numerous vehicles began parking along Hempstead Turnpike and in Eisenhower Park, with drivers abandoning their cars on the grass.

The situation caused heightened concern among authorities as they worked to secure the area.

Thousands of Trump supporters were expected to attend the rally, with many having camped overnight to secure good seats in the indoor arena, which can hold a large crowd.

Trump, who has shifted to indoor venues following a series of security threats, was set to speak at 7 p.m. ET.

This latest security breach comes just three days after a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

During that incident, a man identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh allegedly aimed an AK-47 at the former president as he was playing a round of golf with real estate investor Steve Witkoff.

Secret Service agents opened fire on Routh, preventing him from discharging his weapon. The suspect was found with a GoPro camera and a backpack in addition to the rifle.

The incident in West Palm Beach was the second assassination attempt on Trump in as many months.

On July 13, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the right ear by would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired eight rounds into the crowd from the roof of a nearby building.

In that attack, former fire chief Corey Comperatore was killed, and Trump was rushed to safety by Secret Service agents.

Following these assassination attempts, Trump has pointed to the rhetoric of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as a contributing factor to the violence against him.

He has publicly accused the current administration of fostering an environment that encourages such acts.

Nassau County authorities have not yet confirmed the details of the latest security breach, but local law enforcement is working closely with the Secret Service to ensure the safety of Trump and his supporters at the Long Island event.

Security measures have been tightened around the venue, with additional law enforcement personnel dispatched to the area in response to the explosive threat.

President Trump’s rally at the Nassau Coliseum marks another major campaign stop as he seeks the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.

His rallies have drawn large crowds of enthusiastic supporters, but they have also attracted a significant level of threat, as evidenced by the recent assassination attempts.

Despite the dangers, Trump continues to hold public events and rallies, often drawing tens of thousands of supporters.

His campaign events have become a focal point for both his supporters and detractors, and security around the former president has been a top priority for law enforcement agencies.

The discovery of explosives near the Long Island rally venue and the recent assassination attempts highlight the increasing security challenges facing Trump’s campaign as he moves forward in his bid for a return to the White House.

Trump remains undeterred, continuing to blame the Biden-Harris administration for fostering hostility toward him and his movement.

He has vowed to press on with his campaign, despite the threats, and continues to draw large crowds eager to hear his message.

As of now, the investigation into the explosive device near the rally site is ongoing, and authorities are working to locate the suspect who fled the scene.

Trump’s speech is expected to go forward as planned, but security will be closely monitored as the event unfolds.

This string of attacks underscores the intensity of the political climate surrounding the former president, as well as the ongoing threats he faces while campaigning for the 2024 election.

Authorities are urging vigilance and caution as they continue to investigate the latest incident and assess the security situation for upcoming events.

Full press release from the Trump team about the rally:

President Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, will deliver remarks at a rally in Uniondale, New York on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 7:00PM EST.

Nassau County is reeling from the harmful effects of the dangerously liberal policies championed by Kamala Harris and Democrats like Eric Adams. Since Kamala took office, the average New York household has been forced to spend an additional $27,387, including $4,118 more on food, $4,656 on shelter, $3,882 on energy, and $8,621 on transportation. These disastrous economic policies are draining the bank accounts of hardworking New Yorkers.

Nassau County has also felt the dangerous effects of Kamala Harris’ open border bloodbath. The flood of illegal immigrants into nearby “sanctuary,” New York City has unleashed crime and chaos into their community.

In February, an illegal migrant who crossed the border last November brutally attacked a homeowner in Hempstead. In 2023, police arrested eight men from South America in connection with a series of break-ins targeting homes and businesses across Nassau County. The safety of our neighborhoods is being compromised, and it’s clear that Kamala’s reckless immigration policies are putting New Yorkers at risk.

President Trump’s message to Nassau County is simple and built on his winning record: If you want to return to the strongest economy in over 60 years, rising wages, quality jobs, strong borders, and safe neighborhoods, then vote for the Trump-Vance ticket.
