Former CNN anchor Don Lemon made a rare return to the network on OutFront with Erin Burnett, where he launched a familiar attack against former President Donald Trump. Lemon, who was fired by CNN in 2023 after a controversial 17-year run, criticized Trump’s rhetoric, claiming it incites violence and poses a threat to democracy, as reported by The Hill.

Lemon’s comments come after a failed assassination attempt on Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Secret Service apprehended a man, Ryan Wesley Routh, who was armed with an AK-47-style rifle, hiding in the bushes on Trump’s property. Rather than taking responsibility for the political climate, Lemon turned the blame on Trump, accusing him of stirring division with his “hate-filled” speech.

“But for Donald Trump and his folks to say — and JD Vance to say — that it’s Democrats who are causing this… that’s an issue,” Lemon said, trying to shift the narrative back on Trump and his allies, including Ohio Senator JD Vance.

Lemon’s criticisms of Trump weren’t new. He echoed the typical liberal media talking points, focusing on Trump’s sharp rebukes of political opponents and the mainstream media. Lemon listed Trump’s now well-known nicknames for political figures, such as “Crooked Joe,” “Birdbrain Nikki Haley,” and “Comrade Kamala.” Rather than addressing the very real concerns of conservative voters about the state of the country, Lemon continued the worn-out narrative that Trump is a danger to democracy.

Lemon, who now hosts a show on YouTube, didn’t shy away from doubling down on the mainstream media’s favorite line about Trump inciting the Capitol riot. He claimed Trump was trying to “overthrow the government” and “threatening democracy,” without acknowledging the overwhelming frustration Americans felt with the political establishment in 2020.

Meanwhile, Trump, unshaken by the assassination attempt, has continued to call out Democrats for their dangerous rhetoric and actions. He pointed to the way the left and the mainstream media have repeatedly demonized him and his supporters, contributing to a toxic political environment that has now put his life in danger. Trump took to Truth Social, condemning the lies and divisiveness coming from figures like Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite the left’s attempts to paint him as a threat, Trump remains a staunch defender of American values, and continues to fight back against the political establishment that seeks to silence him and his supporters.
