The Pine Bluff Police Department recently released a video of an unconventional police pursuit that involved officers chasing a stolen golf cart through city streets.

The incident, which took place on Wednesday, September 11, has since gained attention for its unusual nature.

The video was posted on the department’s social media account on Thursday night, showcasing the “low-speed golf cart pursuit” with light-hearted music playing in the background, adding a humorous touch to the bizarre event.

According to an official report from the police, the chase began after they received calls about a stolen golf cart in the 1600 block of W. 40th St.

The suspect, identified as Zachary Hartley, had reportedly stolen the cart from the parking lot of Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Hospital staff immediately began following Hartley as he drove the stolen cart through the surrounding streets.

Pine Bluff officers located the golf cart traveling westbound on 28th Avenue near Hazel Street. As officers pursued, the cart led them through parking lots and onto nearby streets.

In the video released by the police, the slow pace of the chase is evident, and it shows officers attempting to stop the golf cart while maintaining a safe distance.

The chase came to an end at 28th and Holly Street when a hospital worker, who had been following the cart, took matters into his own hands.

The worker jumped into the back of the moving golf cart and managed to bring it to a stop.

The Pine Bluff Police Department praised the worker for his quick thinking, posting, “PS, we have another hero to highlight,” in reference to the hospital employee’s actions.

Once the vehicle was stopped, hospital security officers pulled Hartley from the cart.

He was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor head injuries sustained during the chase. Hartley had reportedly left the hospital earlier that morning after refusing treatment in the emergency room.

According to hospital staff, Hartley had exhibited aggressive behavior prior to the theft, leading to security using a taser on him after he allegedly attempted to strike staff members.

Following his treatment, Hartley was transported to the Dub Brassell Detention Center, where he was charged with felony theft of property and fleeing.

Authorities also indicated that Hartley appeared to be under the influence of substances during the incident, though no further details were provided.

The Pine Bluff Police Department’s release of the chase video, which features the iconic “Yakety Sax” tune commonly associated with comedic moments, has sparked widespread attention online.

Despite the light-hearted presentation, the department’s actions highlight the seriousness of the situation and the swift resolution by both officers and hospital staff.
