Seven American service members were injured during a joint U.S.-Iraqi military operation aimed at eliminating members of the Islamic State (ISIS), a terrorist organization that had been largely decimated during former President Donald Trump’s administration.

The large-scale mission, one of the biggest counterterrorism efforts in Iraq in years, saw U.S. and Iraqi forces collaborate to take out at least 14 ISIS fighters.

The operation, involving around 200 troops, mostly American, highlights the resurgence of ISIS in the region.

This resurgence comes as a surprise to many, as the terror group had been effectively dismantled by the end of Trump’s term.

During a campaign event in Asheboro, North Carolina, Trump reminded his supporters of his administration’s success in combating ISIS. “We defeated ISIS, we killed the world’s top terrorists, we secured our borders,” Trump said, emphasizing the decisive actions taken during his presidency to combat terrorism.

Trump’s claims are supported by a March 2019 report from the BBC, which confirmed that under his leadership, ISIS had lost its “final territory.”

At its peak, ISIS controlled vast areas of land across Syria and Iraq, totaling 88,000 square kilometers. By 2019, the group had been reduced to holding only a few hundred square meters near the Syria-Iraq border.

However, recent reports from U.S. Central Command indicate that ISIS has regained strength in the region. According to The New York Times, the number of ISIS attacks in Iraq and Syria is on track to double this year, illustrating the growing threat posed by the group.

This resurgence is not limited to the Middle East. ISIS has claimed responsibility for attacks in Europe, including a knife attack during a festival in Solingen, Germany, which resulted in three deaths and eight injuries.

The terrorist group also plotted a large-scale attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, Austria, which was thwarted by authorities.

In addition to these international incidents, U.S. homeland security concerns have also increased.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported in June that more than 400 illegal immigrants connected to an “ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network” had been identified in the U.S.

Alarmingly, over 50 of those individuals remain unaccounted for, raising concerns about potential threats to national security.

Tthe Biden-Harris administration has been criticized for its handling of foreign policy, particularly regarding terrorism.

Kamala Harris played a significant role in the decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan, which led to an ISIS-K suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. soldiers in 2021.

Harris continues to support the administration’s approach, stating that they are working to “eliminate leaders of al Qaeda and ISIS.”

Meanwhile, reports from The Intercept reveal that ISIS fighters in Iraq have been seizing American weapons, using them against U.S. and allied forces.

The stolen weapons, provided at U.S. taxpayer expense, have only bolstered the terror group’s capacity for violence.

The resurgence of ISIS, which had been nearly eradicated in 2019, underscores the increasing challenges the U.S. faces in maintaining security in the region.

The fact that a major operation was necessary to combat the group, resulting in injuries to seven U.S. soldiers, is a clear indication of the growing threat posed by ISIS. Critics of the current administration argue that the resurgence of ISIS is no coincidence and point to the policies of the Biden-Harris administration as contributing factors.
