The news has just broke that Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby girl on Friday, June 4. The daughter is the second child of Meghan and Prince Harry, who are also parents to a 2 year-old son Archie.

“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” the couple announced today, according to Daily Mail. “Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7lbs 11oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” the statement added. “This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”

“‘On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” the couple added in a statement on their website. “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

The couple had announced back in February that they were expecting their second child.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” the pair’s rep told US Weekly at the time. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

Misan Harriman photographed their maternity shoot, explaining that the lighting was a tribute to Meghan and Harry’s July 2020 miscarriage and signaled “fortitude, hope [and] love.

“They are lost in each other,” said Harriman. “And the tree in the background and just life growing around them is incredibly powerful and symbolic. Particularly for the many women going through [pregnancy loss], this should give them strength to know there’s light in that dark place. It really means a lot.”
