Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are two Hollywood stars who have been close friends ever since they starred in the classic movie “Toy Story” together. Now, Allen is opening up about the advice he gave his good friend Hanks when he learned he was battling the deadly coronavirus last month.

Hanks, 63, and his wife Rita Wilson were two of the first celebrities to reveal that they had tested positive for COVID-19 while filming a movie in Australia. Allen, 66, talked to “Extra” about the hilarious exchange he had with Hanks after news of his diagnosis broke.

“I wrote him. I said, ‘You should have worn the Buzz Lightyear protective suit and then you wouldn’t have gotten in that trouble!” Allen said. “You put that bubble down.”

Allen and Hanks voiced the iconic characters of Buzz Lightyear and Woody in “Toy Story,” which has had three sequels since its original 1995 release.

“Extra” host Billy Bush said he found Hanks to be “extremely comforting” as he gave constant updates of his battle with coronavirus. “He was just like you said,” Allen agreed. “It’s just like Hanks to be that way.”

Thankfully, Hanks and his wife were both able to beat coronavirus, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people from around the globe. He recently opened up about what battling COVID-19 was really like, saying it affected both him and Wilson differently.

“Rita went through a tougher time than I did,” he said. “She had a much higher fever. She had lost her sense of taste and sense of smell. She got absolutely no joy from food for a better part of three weeks.”

Hanks went on to add that he “had some bad body aches and was very fatigued, and that’s how the COVID-19 went through us.” He also said that the effects of hydroxychloroquine, which is being used to treat coronavirus, left Wilson feeling “so nauseous.”

“She was so nauseous she had to crawl on the floor from the bed to the facilities,” Hanks said, “and it lasted a while.”

Hanks recalled that he tried to do stretches for 30 minutes a day as he recovered as well as doing “other old man things.”

“I was wiped after 12 minutes. I laid down in my hospital bed and just slept,” he said. We’re so glad to see that Allen and Wilson have made a full recovery!
