When the devastating earthquake struck the tiny island of Haiti in 2010, Bullock donated one million dollars to Doctors Without Borders.

This international humanitarian organization assists communities that are threatened by violence, disease, disaster, and other health emergencies. They were one of the first groups to set foot in Haiti after the earthquake.

Shortly after the earthquake in Haiti, Bullock changed her focus to being a mother. She adopted her son Louis, and would adopt a daughter, Laila, two years later.

Both of the children are natives of Louisiana. Bullock has worked to make her kids lives as normal as possible shuttling them back and forth to school her self, attending PTA meetings like other mothers, and taking them to do normal kid activities like going to the zoo and the movies.

Bullock started the adoption process of Louis with her now ex-husband Jesse James. Her very public divorce from James, after he was caught cheating on her, didn't change her adoption plans.

She brought Louis home herself, and at the insistence of her son, adopted her daughter on her own as well.
