“Last Man Standing” will return to television screens across the country for its seventh season on September 28.

It’s quite an accomplishment for a show to make it to a seventh season, yet “Standing” has had more of an uphill battle than most.

Though it was one of the network’s highest rated comedies, ABC canceled the series last year with little explanation given to fans.

Lead actor Tim Allen, who plays patriarch Mike Baxter in the series, expressed confusion and outrage at the show’s cancellation.

Many theorized that the show’s right-leaning characters and storylines were what led ABC to axe it.

Fox has now picked up the series; the return of the sitcom comes after fans constantly lobbied through petitions and social media for a return of the Baxter family to the small screen.

In a video promoting the return of “Standing,” Tim Allen and his fellow cast members thanked the fans for making new episodes of the series possible.

“The fan base, without any jokes, was startling,” said Allen about the responses to the show’s originally being canceled.

Nancy Travis, who plays Vanessa Baxter on the series, said fans were “very vocal and very active” in working to get “Standing” back on the air.

In the video, superfan Chad Miller is specifically highlighted.

“When the show was originally canceled, I was angry,” said Miller, who had the opportunity to meet several cast members, including Allen.

“I felt like I needed to get my voice out there.”

In the promotional video, Allen thanked Miller for all his hard work in bringing “Standing” back to the airwaves.

Travis also thanked Miller and called the return of “Standing” a “fans’ victory, really.”

“Last Man Standing” follows the Baxter family, which is led by Mike Baxter, an old-fashioned conservative man trying desperately to navigate the waters of an increasingly politically correct and soft time — while also trying to impart wisdom on his daughters as they enter young adulthood.
