“Monster Trucks,” $115 million loss. Viacom, the company that owns Paramount (which released “Monster Trucks”), revealed in the final quarter of 2016 that it was taking a $115 million write-down. The lost investment was cited as “a programming impairment charge of $115 million.”

Many believed the unspecified investment was January’s “Monster Trucks,” a film Paramount knew was a dud long before it hit theaters. They were right: The film barely made over $60 million worldwide.
