“Melissa,” 1972. This song, off the album “Eat a Peach,” remains one of the most enduring hits of the Allman Brothers Band. It’s a breezy and soulful tune — but one that Gregg Allman didn’t think much of at first.

Duane Allman had always loved the song, and the brothers recorded it with a previous band; Gregg Allman never cared to revisit it. Duane Allman’s death changed all that.
