On This Day… Oct. 20, 1973

The so-called “Saturday Night Massacre” — one of the most controversial events of the Watergate scandal — occurred when President Richard Nixon fired Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox. Less than a year later, Nixon resigned from the presidency on August 8, 1974.
