If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex and are also an “undocumented” student who is trying to fund a college education here in the U.S. on the backs of the American people — you may be in luck.

A scholarship program is available just for you. All you have to do is apply. Isn’t it wonderful?

The Levin-Goffe Scholarship Fund was established to provide up to two full years of college expenses for New York-based college students who identify as LGBTQI and are also illegal immigrants.

Your tuition can’t exceed $12,500, you can’t have a criminal record, and you must be a full-time New York City college or university student. You must have successfully completed at least one full academic year. And you must have at least a 3.25 GPA.

“Scholarships from this fund,” the description reads, “are intended to provide a measure of economic stability for those who stand at the intersection of marginalization that can be created by being both LGBTQI and an immigrant.”

There’s only one huuuuge problem.

There are thousands upon thousands of legal American college students who are scrimping and saving and taking out massive loans from every place they can think of to try to afford college — and you may be taking their place (and their money).

But don’t fret. You have a lot of time to apply — and a lot of time to think it over! While the 2016 application cycle has already closed, “applications for the next cycle will be available in early 2017,” the fund says. It’s run by the NYC-based Stonewall Community Foundation, which focuses on the needs of “New York City’s diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.”

To date, the foundation says it has “invested more than $16 million across hundreds of organizations.”

By completing the poll, you agree to receive emails from LifeZette, occasional offers from our partners and that you've read and agree to our privacy policy and legal statement.

On the application, by the way, you must check the box that says this: “By checking here, I certify that I am an immigrant to the United States and do not have documented status as a permanent resident.”
