Paramount Pictures has announced a sequel to the hit 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” starring former Vice President Al Gore.

The sequel, entitled “An Inconvenient Truth 2,” will make its 2017 premiere at the Sundance Film Festival — 11 years after the original film debuted in the same fashion.

Said Gore about the upcoming film, “Now more than ever, we must rededicate ourselves to solving the climate crisis. But we have reason to be hopeful; the solutions to the crisis are at hand. I’m deeply honored and grateful that Paramount Pictures and Participant Media have once again taken on the task of bringing the critical story of the climate crisis to the world.”

The original “Inconvenient Truth” won two Academy Awards and became a top-grossing documentary. The sequel is said to be focusing on new developments in the arena of the global warming debate over the last ten years.

Since the release of “Truth,” the global warming debate has gotten more heated — with many presenting evidence contrary to Gore’s original arguments. It remains to be seen whether the sequel will be a retread of Gore’s earlier points or a more open debate between both sides of the issue of global warming.

Gore has come under fire in the public eye in recent years for everything from his hypocritical carbon footprint while filming “Truth” — to his sale of Current TV to Qatar-based Al Jazeera in 2013.
