Was this the last time we’ll see Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump? It was the last episode of “Saturday Night Live” before the election — and both Baldwin and Kate McKinnon (who has been skewering Hillary Clinton all season long) stepped out of character at the end of the cold opening of Saturday’s show.
They had been going at each other — just as they have all season, with Baldwin’s Trump surprised to find out that his Twitter account wasn’t private.

“Really? And I’m still in this thing? America, you must really hate this lady,” he said.
“They do,” confirmed McKinnon’s Clinton.
The focus was on Clinton’s emails — and she was frustrated by the continued questions about them, while Trump kissed an FBI agent, Vladimir Putin, and a KKK member on the lips.
“What is happening? Is the whole word insane?” she asked.

“Donald Trump has single-handedly destroyed everything we Americans hold dear. Kindness. Decency. Tic Tacs. Skittles. Taco Bowls. Father-daughter dances. Buses. Bright red hats. The word ‘great.’ The color orange. Men.”
McKinnon continued, “But look, if you want to elect him president on Tuesday — OK, go ahead. But then in four years, once you all realize you’ve been tricked, you’re gonna come running back to me, begging me to run again and guess what, idiots? I’ll do it.”
Baldwin began to reply with insults, saying Hillary is “a liar” and “a crook,” but as he was talking about sending her to jail — he suddenly stopped. The camera pulled back to show the two on set.
“I’m sorry, Kate. I just hate yelling all this stuff at you like this,” he said.
“Yeah, I know, right?” McKinnon replied, moving closer to him. “This whole election has been so mean.”
“I mean, I just feel gross all the time,” Baldwin said, addressing the cameras. “Don’t you guys feel gross all the time about this?”
“You know what I think can help us?” McKinnon asked. “Let’s get out of here.”

While holding hands, the two ran out of the studio into Times Square. They handed out balloons and ate pretzels. McKinnon hugged Trump supporters and gobbled cotton candy — while Baldwin gave her a piggyback ride before running back inside.
In the end, McKinnon said, “We can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday, we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in.”

Later in the show, in a fun moment during the “Weekend Update” segment, Bill Murray showed up with World Series-winning Chicago Cub players Anthony Rizzo, David Ross, and Dexter Fowler.
“Weekend Update” host Colin Jost told Murray, “You look familiar. Did you used to work here?”
“Yes,” replied Murray, who was on the show from 1977 to 1980. “That was so many lifetimes ago. Right now — for me, it’s all about our music.”
