Many artists smartly avoided politics during the 2018 Grammy Awards telecast, but the reliably liberal Sarah Silverman went political during her very brief time on stage.

“We’re here to encourage you all to vote,” she joked as she took the stage with Victor Cruz. After Cruz, former wide receiver for the New York Giants, said they were not going political, Silverman — wearing an incredibly skin-tight black dress — said she really didn’t care what people did because “the world is basically over anyway.”

Mind you, this is from an anti-Trump artist who once mistook construction markings on a street for Nazi insignia. It’s strange to see artists like Silverman still casually spreading such a negative view of the world.

Apparently, the 47-year-old comedian is not aware of the booming American economy, the latest tax cuts or the hundreds of companies now giving bonuses to U.S. workers.

What’s perhaps most disturbing is that comments like these are articulated as if they’re universally true — and that no one else might have an opposing point of view. America is about freedom of expression, yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK for those with a stage and a microphone to spread outrageously negative comments about the state of this union.

If she followed up with a fact or a satirical joke, it would be one thing. Instead, Silverman — nominated but not the winner for Best Comedy Album — simply used her time in the limelight to spread unnecessary negativity to all those watching.

“Daily Show” host Trevor Noah later continued the anti-Trump negativity by saying a musical performance “takes me away to a time when Trump wasn’t president,” proving his entire act is dependent upon the president. He also predictably and foolishly brought up Trump’s twitter feud with rapper Jay-Z.
