Kathy Griffin is living in a reality of her own making.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 57-year-old comedian talked up a potential comeback and the hardships she’s faced since last year, after posing with a severed and bloody mock portrait of the president’s likeness.

She was criticized on both sides of the aisle and quickly started losing gigs. Squatty Potty dropped her as a spokesperson — yes, she was a spokesperson for this product —  CNN axed her as a New Year’s celebration host, and she revealed she had trouble booking stage time in the United States.

After the image went viral, Griffin quickly admitted  in a teary-eyed press conference that she went too far. She then backtracked and tried to stand by what she did. These days, she’s all over the map and can’t decide whether what she did was wrong or that everybody else was wrong for criticizing her.

In her most recent interview, she admitted the crude photo was little more than a cry for attention.

“When you’re in between gigs and trying to stay on the map, you have to think of ways to stay in the spotlight,” said Griffin. She added that she was hoping to promote a comedy tour she was undertaking.

Here’s the trouble with Griffin: She has yet again admitted that her vile photo was a publicity stunt. When she got the publicity she was so desperately seeking, she tried to back away from the photo and apologize. She now double-talks and walks back her apology from time to time.

You can’t have it both ways. The truth is, she likely didn’t expect many liberals to turn on her for the photo — and when they did, she knew she was in trouble.

“I didn’t commit a crime,” Griffin said. “I didn’t rape anybody. I didn’t assault anybody. I didn’t get a DUI. I mean, my God, there are celebrities that f***ing kill people.”

Griffin also threw former lawyer Lisa Bloom under the bus during her interview. Bloom, who also infamously defended Harvey Weinstein for a time, was at Griffin’s press conference and made her presence very known.

“It turned out she wanted me to do an infomercial for her,” said Griffin. “When I walked into that room, I had no idea there was going to be a banner above my head that said LisaBloom.com. I didn’t know she was going to Velcro herself to my shoulder so she couldn’t be cut out of any shot. I didn’t know she was going to hand me a mug that said LisaBloom.com. I got all of that in under three seconds.”

Other comments in Griffin’s latest interview included golden bits like, “The minute I do something that makes money, they will all love me again,” and “When I’m dead, I’ll be a legend. But not now.”

So Griffin now makes a living traveling overseas capitalizing on a photo showing the likeness of the American president beheaded? Great.

It’s just too much at this point. Griffin wants to be a bold comedian, then she wants to be a victim, then she wants to be an apologetic artist pleading for a second chance. This is a comedian who doesn’t know how to handle a crisis — one of her own doing.

She revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she recently did a comedy tour overseas, and it did well. “In Iceland, at one point I asked, ‘How do you guys even know me?’ And people just started yelling out, ‘The picture!'” she said.

So Griffin now makes a living traveling overseas capitalizing on a photo showing the likeness of the American president beheaded? Great. How about this, Kathy Griffin? Next time you’re over in Iceland high-fiving fans over your weird, ISIS-style photo — maybe just stay there.
