Just in time for Comic-Con 2016, which kicks off today in San Diego, comes the first look at new “Lego Batman Movie” characters.

Hope you weren’t expecting cute Lego toys. Because these guys are creepy — especially The Joker.

The movie is set for release on Feb. 10.

He’s wearing his classic purple suit with a green tie, which has a skull pattern. His mouth has the signature bright red lipstick grotesquely applied around his mouth, which features sharp, pointy yellowed teeth. Even Gizmodo wrote the looks “aren’t quite what we all were expecting.”

But it is The Joker, after all (who will ever forget Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the character in 2008’s “The Dark Knight”?) and fans of the PG-rated blockbuster 2014 “Lego Movie” — which grossed more than $450 million worldwide — are excited about the unveiling. A 7-foot-tall Lego Batman is expected to show up at Comic-Con to stand among the fanboy crowds and help keep the hype going.

The movie, set for release on Feb. 10, is directed by Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on the original “Lego Movie.” This new “Lego Batman” is a spin-off from that. (It should not be confused with a previous, smaller “Lego Batman: The Movie, DC Superheroes Unite” which was released straight to DVD in 2013.)

Though the studio didn’t officially announce the “Batman” spin-off until six months after the original “Lego Movie” premiered, Will Arnett, who voices the character, was on board with the sequel within days of the record-breaking release in 2014.

“The returns kept coming back bigger and bigger, and we felt really good about the movie and were all out celebrating — everybody that was part of the team, the studio, the producers, the cast — and it was kind of tipped that night. ‘Alright, next up is Batman,'” Arnett told Entertainment Weekly. “And I was like, ‘What?! Really?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah man, let’s do it.’ That’s literally how it happened.'”

The plot of “Lego Batman” brings back the irreverent spirit of the Caped Crusader, who must save Gotham from The Joker’s hostile takeover. To do it, Batdude can’t be the brooding loner he was in the first film. He needs a little help from his friends.

Sidekick Robin is played by  Michael Cera and evil enemy The Joker is voiced by Zach Galifianakis.

“The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game,” director Chris McKay told USA Today. “But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy.”

Robin/Dick Grayson turns out to be a child adopted by Batman’s alter ego, billionaire Bruce Wayne, at a charity auction.

“Robin is a super-positive kid who always sees the glass as half-full. Really, at the end of the day, he just wants a hug,” McKay says. “Michael brings the sweetness and honesty.”

Rounding out the cast are Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, and Mariah Carey as the Mayor of Gotham City,
