Count late-night host Conan O’Brien among those urging Oprah Winfrey to run for president in 2020.
Winfrey recently told People that she would need a sign from God to jump into a political campaign.
“I went into prayer,” she said. “‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it,'” she said.
“And I haven’t gotten that,” she added.
O’Brien responded to these comments on his talk show Thursday night by saying, “Oprah is in the news. Oprah said she asked God for a sign on whether or not she should run for president, but she hasn’t had a sign yet. Yeah, and then someone pointed out Trump being president is the sign — that’s the sign.”
What's most interesting about mainstream media responses to Winfrey's comments about needing a sign from God is they show a clear and sharp contrast in terms of how a liberal's faith is received versus that of a conservative.
Vice President Mike Pence has been openly mocked for his faith and his praying.
"It's one thing to talk to Jesus. It's another thing when Jesus talks to you. That's called 'mental illness,' if I'm not correct. Hearing voices," Joy Behar said rudely and inappropriately on a recent episode of ABC's "The View," when discussing Pence and prayer.
She was one of many liberals to criticize the vice president.
As O'Brien's light-hearted comments show — Winfrey receives a very different response from the media and Hollywood elite when she talks of prayer.
