On November 28, 1966, the infamous Truman Capote threw “the party of the century” in honor of Katherine Graham, Pulitzer Prize winner and president of The Washington Post and Newsweek.

Capote invited 540 of New York’s elite to join him in the Grand Ballroom at New York City’s Plaza Hotel. As particular as Capote was, he insisted his guests wear black or white outfits only and that they wear a mask. Women were required to carry a fan.
