Although the mainstream media are doing their best to portray overwhelming opposition to President Donald Trump’s executive order temporarily restricting migration from seven war-torn countries, recent polls suggest there is significant support among the public for the measure.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll taken between Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 and released Wednesday showed 48 percent of Americans support the executive order, while 41 percent of Americans oppose it.

While just shy of half of the country supports Trump’s ban, a full two-thirds of Americans — 66 percent — agree that the country should restrict the number of refugees it takes in, the poll showed. Nearly a full third — 32 percent — strongly support limiting refugee intake. Only 26 percent are strongly opposed.

The results of the Reuters/Ipsos poll follow a Rasmussen survey released Monday that showed 57 percent of likely voters favor a temporary ban on refugees not just from Syria, but the other seven countries affected by the travel ban as well. The Rasmussen poll showed that only a third of likely voters oppose such a ban.

The poll also showed that 56 percent favor a temporary suspension of visas permitting residents of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen to entering the United States. Less than a third — 32 percent — are opposed to such a ban.

“The majority of Americans agree with the president,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer Monday. “These steps are frankly commonsense steps to make sure we’re never looking at the rear-view mirror asking, ‘We should have done something,'” he added.
