The media are downplaying the violent anti-Trump protesters who caused bloodshed and started fires at a Donald Trump campaign rally last week, LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham said Monday on Fox News’ “The Sean Hannity Show.”

“What we’re seeing on the streets in California is thuggery,” Ingraham told Hannity. “The left would call it a hate crime, Sean, if these types of crimes were committed against any minority group that was considered protected. Whether they be Hispanics, of course, or other minorities — maybe gay Americans.”

“Violence is not only accepted but in many cases it’s excused and even validated by a media that hates Trump and frankly despises his supporters,” Ingraham said.

An estimated 300 to 400 anti-Trump protesters reportedly massed outside a Trump rally in San Jose, California last week and engaged in a slew of violent acts that ultimately led to four arrests and bloodshed. The left-wing activists, some carrying Mexican flags, pelted eggs at cars and Trump supporters, physically attacked supporters, and lit “Make America Great Again” hats on fire.

Ingraham said the violence by left-wing agitators actually fuels Trump’s narrative about illegal immigration.

“We hear that Donald Trump is wrong, that crime isn’t coming into the country, these are patriotic American kids, and everything but this citizenship formality. Well what these protests show is that in many cases [that] is not true.”

Ingraham called out the media for thinly veiled bias in their coverage of Trump events — coverage that often implies the billionaire businessman is an instigator, “creating the environment that is fomenting this violence.”

“What’s obvious here is that the media, they will not cover a story, certainly not fairly or adequately, if it cuts against their narrative,” Ingraham said, noting how liberal media groups constantly push their views that on immigration being “always good, illegal or legal because it’s the great melting pot.”

Likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has also blamed Trump for the violence committed by left-wing protesters at his rallies. Ingraham contested that if the “the shoe were on the other foot” and it was Trump supporters beating up on Hillary supporters, “this would be a massive story, [the media] would never let it go.”

“But because there are many white people who are attending these rallies … this violence is not only accepted but in many cases it’s excused and even validated by a media that hates Trump and frankly despises his supporters,” Ingraham said.
