Fiery Fiorina Lets Loose

Carly Fiorina mopped up the floor with her rivals in the first undercard debate last month, battled her way into a 10-man debate to become the 11th candidate in Wednesday’s contest, and then smacked down the big boys in the prime-time show.

She got the first question, when she was asked if she thought Donald Trump should have his finger on the nuclear button. She demurred, saying that decision belongs to the voters.

But Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, unloaded on the men surrounding her when she teed off on a question about Planned Parenthood, which has been shown in videos discussing how to harvest body parts of aborted fetuses. Asked about Iran and Planned Parenthood, she said:

“I would like to link these issues, both are incredibly important: Iran and Planned Parenthood. One has something to do with the security of this nation, the other has something to do with the defense of the character of this nation. You haven’t heard a plan about Iran from any politicians up here. Here is my plan. On Day One I will make two phone calls. The first to my good friend Bibi Netanyahu to reassure him we will stand with the state of Israel.

“This is about the character of our nation, and if we will not stand up and force President Obama to veto this bill, shame on us.”

“The second to the supreme leader to tell him that unless and until he opens every military and every nuclear facility to anywhere anytime inspections by our people, not his, we the United States of America will make it as difficult as possible to move money around the global financial system. We can do that, we don’t need anyone’s permission to do that, we don’t need anyone’s cooperation to do it. And every ally and adversary we have in this world will know that the United States of America is back in the leadership business, which is how we must stand with out allies.

“As regards Planned Parenthood, anyone who has watched this videotape, I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes, to watch a live fetus, on the table, heart beating, legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest it’s brain. This is about the character of our nation, and if we will not stand up and force President Obama to veto this bill, shame on us.”

She won the loudest applause of the night with her speech.

Minutes later, Fiorina was asked about Trump’s comments on her looks. “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said,” she said simply. And then she said no more on that.

The crowd exploded in applause.

Trump, pouting his lips and looking a bit knocked back, stammered: “I think she’s got a beautiful face and I think she’s a beautiful woman.”

The crowd was silent.
