While none of the 2016 candidates are murdering competitors or shoving journalists in front of speeding trains, this election cycle has delivered plenty of jaw-dropping surprises and plot twists that would be sure to shock even Frank Underwood.

Prostitutes like Rachel Posner end up stalked and murdered in “House of Cards.” But prostitutes and porn stars have entered the 2016 presidential race in a much different way — they’re even flaunted on the campaign trail. In fact, there was a juicy headline that read “Hookers for Hillary,” with hookers at the famed Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada coming out in support of the former secretary of state.

But it’s not just liberals. Amy Lindsay, a soft core porn star who appeared in a Ted Cruz campaign ad, decided to publicly endorse Donald Trump. So it’s a split: The Democrats have locked down the hookers, the GOP is drawing the porn star vote.

At the end of Season Three, many “House of Cards” fans were shocked to see that Claire was leaving Frank. But in the 2016 campaign, people were more surprised to see that Hillary Clinton was actually using Bill Clinton as her secret weapon on the campaign trail — despite his infidelities and the long string of sexual misconduct accusations.

While Frank Underwood is known for his soliloquies, slick one-liners and use of “colorful” metaphors, Trump could give him a run for his money. “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” Trump said at a campaign rally Iowa.

But Underwood is best known for his dirty tactics to make people bend to his will — specifically blackmailing them until he gets what he wants. Even though no one on the campaign trail this cycle has blackmailed anyone, to our knowledge, Cruz has been accused by his competitors of using campaign trickery. Cruz’s campaign was at the center of spreading a false narrative that Dr. Ben Carson was dropping out of the race once the Iowa caucuses had begun.

(Warning: spoiler alert!) Now, there’s even the possibility of a brokered or contested GOP convention in the 2016 race, which was a scripted plot twist in Season Four of  “House of Cards.” With the anti-Trump sentiment growing and the GOP splintered and divided, an all-out floor fight is not far from reality if the GOP elite try to whip up votes among delegates before the convention.

Similarly, Frank and Claire draw support for Claire’s nomination for vice president behind the scenes before the convention and pretend to be utterly shocked when she starts racking up votes on the convention floor. Ultimately, Claire prevails and the ticket for the campaign becomes Underwood-Underwood.

Frank would most certainly be proud of Clinton, because she has truly mastered the world of corruption and deceit. When Clinton’s secret home-brew server was found, she denied sending or receiving any classified information. Yet months later — after spilling over thousands of emails — that simply isn’t true.

Clinton has tried to keep the public and the press at bay regarding her email server, but her implication has grown to the point of FBI involvement. It seems as though nothing will stop Hillary from assuming the presidency — even possible criminal indictment.

Just like Frank Underwood.
