I read about a Danish travel agency’s recent attempt to help with its country’s underpopulation problem, “Do It For Mom.”

Denmark has a lot going for it. Its economy is solid, and the U.N. has pronounced it the world’s happiest country. But their birth rate is at an all-time low, right alongside that of Germany, Japan, and Singapore, no doubt much less happy countries.

A 27-year low in the birth rate! Something must be rotten!

So the very clever Spies Rejser travel agency launched a “Do it for Mom!” campaign, a blatant effort aimed at getting would-be grandmas to fund their children’s vacations so they will have more sex.

That’s because vacation is where people tend to have sex the most — 46 percent more, apparently, the ad says.

Each trip booked for such a purpose comes with an ovulation discount. Not kidding!

Oh, and if the couple can prove they conceived the child on such vacation, they get a free year’s supply of diapers.

For anyone who has raised an infant, you know what a big deal that is.

I’m not Danish, and I’m as prudish as the next American gal. But I’m also tired and, leaving aside that the hubby and I are maxed out at two kids, we could really use a vacation. So I decided to hit up the folks, who think our kids are awfully cute.

“Isn’t this a great idea?” I asked.

“Bizarre behavior on the part of the travel company,” said the mother, a former college professor.

Perhaps the stepdad will see reason.

“There are many good reasons to have children,” he said. “When someone is ready to love, and share, and give of themselves to their children, then they should have them.”

Then came the kicker.

“Just because a grandmother wants grandkids or a nation ‘needs’ kids is not the same as you wanting them,” he said. “Besides, a catchy ad campaign that uses soft porn to get your attention is normal in that part of the world. They have a healthy view of sex.”

Enough said.
