Never mind that this husband and wife are still married 50 years after they first said their vows — that alone is worthy of a little good cheer.

But here is fresh evidence that love and devotion can contribute to a long and healthy life as well.

Married 50 years this October, Carole-Ann and Jim Stanfield of Tamworth, Staffordshire, in England, have figured out that their old wedding clothes still fit them.

They spent some time rummaging around their loft recently and found their original wedding pictures and garments.

What fun to find things that are 50 years old and in such terrific shape. But how amazing to actually still fit into them — and be able to breathe.

The Stanfields found that her dress and his suit were “gathering dust. The two last wore the outfits on Oct. 1, 1966,” The Telegraph reported.

A New York mother of two, whose parents were married for 56 years before her father passed away, recalls how well the couple got along throughout their successful marriage — and while raising six children.

“They grew with each other — I think that’s No. 1,” she said. “They also treated each other well — with respect, with humor, and with affection. That was apparent to all who knew them together. I think long, happy marriages in which both people stay healthy are no accident.”

The Stanfields’ granddaughter threw them a party so the couple could wear their old wedding outfits and show them off a bit for friends and family.

The Stanfields agreed this was a good idea, as The Telegraph noted — and they invited all their friends so they could celebrate their anniversary, wearing their cherished old garb from their earliest days together.

“A lot of people knew we were going to wear them, but they were still stunned to see us in them,” Carole-Ann Stanfield reportedly said. “Stunned” is the right word.
