“It was a big, big world, but we thought we were bigger. Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker. By 11 we all wanted to grow older quicker — and all our lives we couldn’t wait until our senior year …”

It’s about the journey many high school seniors face and the bittersweet excitement they feel as they move on to the next chapter in their lives.

Finally, we can retire the Vitamin C “Graduation Song” from 1999.

J.P. Wallace, a graduate of Lapeer High School, performed his cover of Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” with some new lyrics at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where commencement was held for the high school’s class of 2016 and all of their families and friends.

Wallace’s rendition of the song earned a standing ovation, while at the same time delivering a paramount message to the audience.

“Seniors, look around, we’ve made our parents proud, we’ve worked so hard and now we get our cap and gown.”

Sticking with the theme of graduation, Wallace sang about the life journey many high school seniors are going through and the bittersweet excitement they feel as they move onto the next chapter in their lives.

“Soon we’ll be getting our degrees — we’ll have our own house keys and we’ll be telling high school stories to our families … ”

Wallace, a natural on stage, maintains the insane traction from his performance not just within his community, but on the nationally syndicated radio show “Mojo in the Morning.”

It’s only a matter of time before Wallace gives Lukas Graham themselves a run for their money.

“And it’s a big, big world — we may not all stick together, but I know that every one of you, I will remember. And I won’t forget how you changed my life for the better, so I won’t tell you goodbye, I’ll just say see you later …”

With this kid’s wise words and standout talent, there is no doubt he has a future in the limelight. He certainly has the ideal fan base behind him.
