A Jacksonville, Florida, city employee walked into Jaguar Power Sports around noon on Monday and demanded the company remove its military flags from the roof of its building –– then issued a citation for an alleged violation of a city code.
Well — game on, folks. The business was having none of this. And an employee posted a Facebook Live video to let the nation know about the city’s request.
The video has been shared more than 228,000 times since it was posted Monday. In the video, the employee also says the city inspector insulted a customer in the store — who turned out to be a military veteran.
“She says, ‘What did you do for this country?’ He says, ‘I took three bullets to the leg. I almost lost my life for this country. I’m retired. I’m a veteran.’ She gets in his face this close and says, ‘You did nothing for this country,'” store employee Katie Klasse told Jacksonville station WJXT.
The city inspector was identified as Melinda Power. Employees said the warning caused the veteran to become upset, as Jacksonville radio station WOKV reported.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry heard of the warning to the business.
And he sided with Jaguar Sports, tweeting, “Let Them Fly.”
1. I Have directed city staff that military flags should be treated same as US flag. Let them fly. I Have reached out to the business owner & will review employee procedures. COJ employees r expected to be respectful of our customers – you, the people of Jacksonville.

Mayor Curry’s chief of staff, Brian Hughes, also issued a statement on the matter, as KULR-TV reported:
We are disturbed by some of the claims made about a city employee and are reviewing the facts. We are also reviewing the current ordinances regarding flags and signs to ensure accurate information was shared. The business was issued a warning, and was not fined. Warnings are issued to provide property owners information about a possible violation, and corrective action. I have contacted the dealership and provided the owner with the mayor’s contact information for them to discuss directly. Mayor Curry and his administration respect and appreciate those in uniform who have served and continue to serve our community, and our country.
The Jacksonville city worker who allegedly insulted the veteran apologized on her Facebook page on Tuesday, reported WOKV.
Jaguar Power Sports also updated its Facebook Live video to say the situation was moving in the right direction — and thanked the mayor. The company said in the video it was inundated with community support, including “400 to 500 voicemails” left for the company.

Though he was offended by her alleged comments, the veteran said he doesn’t want her fired, WOKV reported.
