With Pope Francis now on American soil, the faithful are scrambling to find an opportunity to see the leader of the Catholic Church. One of the larger gatherings of believers during the Washington, D.C., leg of the tour is the Canonization Mass of Junipero Serra at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

The mass begins at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Gates open to ticket-holders at 11 a.m.

Junipero Serra was a Spanish Franciscan missionary who converted Native American communities to Catholicism in California during the 1700s.
