The Vatican likes to pop some corn, curl up on the couch, and watch classic, mainstream films — just like everybody else! Surprised? Us too!

A papal group took time out to come up with a list of 45 “great film” favorites, ranging from horror movies to Westerns. The Pontifical Commission for Social Communications actually created the list in 1995 as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of cinema. It’s designed to be a guide for Catholics interested in the “many worthwhile productions” in the world of film. When the commission released the list, they noted: “Not all that deserve mention are included.”

The following video descriptions were originally published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
