While there have been numerous articles surrounding the Roe vs. Wade debate and what the Supreme Court will rule, numerous key Democrats have voiced their anger over a ruling that hasn’t happened yet. Still, as the Democrats and Biden administration has already vowed to fight the decision and defend a woman’s right to get an abortion, the voices of Americans have been drowned out. But taking a look online, it appears that some are claiming “hookup culture” will be ruined if the Supreme Court stands by their leaked document. 

Giving some insight to what the ruling would mean for hookup culture, Bridget Gwyn jumped on TikTok, stating, “In case you’re a man who doesn’t care about Roe v. Wade, just know that if abortion gets banned, hookup culture will be absolutely decimated.” She added, “What woman would have mediocre s*x with a drunk rando if he could potentially father their child.”

Having accumulated close to 1 million views, the comments section was full of opinions including those for and against abortion. Comments ranged from “I’m entering my celibacy era” to “I already told my sneaky link, no more meet ups cause of fears of pregnancy.”

Democrat Sarah Godlewski added her voice, writing, “If this reporting is true, this very well could be Democrats’ last warning before the Supreme Court strips reproductive rights from millions of Americans. We have had almost 50 years to codify Roe into law, we can’t afford to wait one more day. The Senate needs to end the filibuster, codify Roe, and defend reproductive freedom – Democrats need to act now.”

Even the Democratic candidate for Milwaukee County sheriff, Brian Barkow, chimed in, suggesting, “I am disturbed by reports that a majority of the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to breach decades of legal precedent and overturn Roe v. Wade. Such a decision, if rendered, would be nothing short of an assault on women’s rights to personal choice and bodily autonomy. I stand with Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul in opposing efforts that would criminalize the reproductive healthcare process. As the Attorney General has stated, such a move “would result in serious negative health consequences, including potentially the death of women who wanted to seek to exercise what for nearly 50 years been understood to be a constitutionally protected right. As the next sheriff of Milwaukee County, I will not engage in the harassment or criminalization of the reproductive healthcare process. Women seeking healthcare services in our community can trust that as Milwaukee County’s chief law enforcement officer, I will honor and protect their rights.”
