Early on Monday evening, just ahead of his “Keep America Great” rally, President Donald Trump shared on Twitter a compelling photo of a lightning strike behind Air Force One.
This happened just before he arrived in North Carolina for a rally on Monday evening in Fayetteville.
“Departing MCAS Cherry Point in North Carolina for Fayetteville, North Carolina. This is amazing!” the president tweeted to his followers.
The photo was first tweeted out by Steve Brusk, a CNN politics supervising producer — who noted that Trump “had to cancel his planned tour of Hurricane Dorian damage because of thunderstorms in Fayetteville, [North Carolina].”

“This was a lightning strike behind Air Force One shortly after he arrived.” Brusk wrote.
Hurricane Dorian made landfall in North Carolina just three days ago with stunning and powerful winds.
Days before that, it hammered the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm. Many dozens of people have been killed; authorities warn the death toll could rise considerably.

It caused a scale of destruction that is only now coming to light. An estimated seven of 10 homes are or have been underwater, according to the Bahamas’ deputy prime minister, as Vernon Brewer pointed out in an op-ed for LifeZette on Monday.
The storm not only swept away entire homes but also destroyed power lines and roads, crippling the country’s infrastructure, causing billions of dollars’ worth of damage — and leaving people stranded without access to food or water.
Roughly an hour after his “lightning strike” tweet, the president shared this note:”Received an update on Air Force One at MCAS Cherry Point in North Carolina, regarding damage caused by Hurricane Dorian.”
