Vice President Mike Pence sharply rebuked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for blaming the current humanitarian crisis in Venezuela on America.
Omar claimed “policies that we [America] have put in place” are to blame for the crisis, adding that “bullying” Nicolas Maduro, the brutal Venezuelan dictator, “does not help.”
Neither, in our opinion, does going against American foreign policy and supporting a brutal dictator whose military vehicles are currently plowing into innocent protesters.

Pence took to social media on Thursday to declare that, unlike Omar, “The Trump administration stands with the freedom-loving people of Venezuela.”

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump officially recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as president over Maduro, joining several other countries in that action.
“The people of Venezuela have courageously spoken out against Maduro and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law,” Trump declared. “I will continue to use the full weight of United States economic and diplomatic power to press for the restoration of Venezuelan democracy.”
Maduro has a history of extreme homophobia and outright murder at the hands of his regime.
When the dictator blocked humanitarian aid to the Venezuelan people in March, Pence denounced him as a “tyrant” who “danced as his henchmen burned truckloads of food and medicine, and murdered civilians.”
Omar disagreed.
Aside from saying these efforts to pressure Maduro out of power are bullying, she has accused the Trump White House of initiating a “coup” in Venezuela.
A US backed coup in Venezuela is not a solution to the dire issues they face. Trump’s efforts to install a far right opposition will only incite violence and further destabilize the region. We must support Mexico, Uruguay & the Vatican’s efforts to facilitate a peaceful dialogue.

Berating Omar. Pence wasn’t the only one to hammer Omar for her clearly anti-American stance.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in an interview Thursday evening on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” denounced Omar’s comments as “disgusting” and “ignorant.”
“The nicest thing I could say is it’s unbelievable ignorance, it’s factually wrong,” Pompeo said on Fox News about Omar’s comments. “The problems of Venezuela have been years in the making.”
“For a member of Congress … to make a statement blaming America for it in this way, it’s not only ignorance, it’s disgusting,” he added.
This comes just hours after former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Omar’s “comments are so far from the truth,” and alleged that “Cuba and Russia appreciate your support.”
Omar continually works against American interests. When are Democrats going to realize this individual doesn’t even vaguely belong in Congress, let alone on the House Foreign Affairs Committee?
