Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House press secretary and current co-host of Fox News’ “Outnumbered,” is set to host the 8 PM ET time slot for the network’s show, currently being referred to as “Fox News Tonight,” following the departure of Tucker Carlson.

Fox News announced that it will rotate hosts before deciding on Carlson’s replacement.

Mediaite suggests that Fox News could potentially move around hosts such as Jesse Watters, Laura Ingraham, or Sean Hannity to fill Carlson’s time slot, or test new hosts in later time slots, but if primetime hosts are to remain in their current slots, they suggest a list of six potential replacements including Greg Gutfeld, Tulsi Gabbard, Brian Kilmeade, Pete Hegseth, Jesse Watters, and Kayleigh McEnany.

Carlson was reportedly “blindsided” by the news of his firing, which came as he was negotiating a new contract that would have kept him at the network until 2029.

While the reason for his dismissal is still unknown, former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly believes that it is due to a series of lawsuits the network is currently facing related to the 2020 election.

“Because the pending litigation was harpooned this morning. Carlson didn’t know. It just happened. And that’s the nature of television news, the most wicked industry in the United States of America,” O’Reilly said.

Reports reveal that Lachlan Murdoch, chief executive of Fox Corporation, and Suzanne Scott, chief executive of Fox News Media, made the decision to fire Carlson. Earlier this week, it was suggested that Carlson believes he was let go because the Murdoch family is planning to sell the network.

The network recently settled a lawsuit with Dominion, agreeing to pay out $787 million, and is facing another lawsuit filed by former Fox News booker Abby Grossberg. Carlson’s dismissal comes after his ratings rose significantly in 2020 following a shift to a more hard-right programming style.

Kayleigh McEnany’s previous role in the Trump administration has led to some controversy, with her being accused of spreading false information and making divisive comments which later proved to be untrue.

Her new hosting position has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising her as a strong conservative voice and others criticizing her lack of journalistic experience.
