Recently, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s departure from the network has raised questions about his future plans.

Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz took to Twitter to offer a teaser about the former host’s future, saying, “OMG wait till everyone sees what @TuckerCarlson has planned.”

However, former Fox News star Megyn Kelly provided some insights on Carlson’s current situation, revealing that he has not been fired but remains under contract with Fox.

During her Thursday podcast on SiriusXM, Kelly explained that Carlson was informed by Fox News Channel CEO Suzanne Scott that he would not be allowed to do any more shows and that he was denied access to the company email. Kelly revealed that now, the two would have to “negotiate an exit” from the network. She further added that Carlson’s removal from the air caught him off guard and that he repeatedly attempted to find out why he was being taken off the air but was rebuffed by Scott.

According to an Independent report, Carlson had been negotiating a new contract that would have reportedly kept him at the network through 2029. Kelly expressed disappointment over Carlson’s departure and asked why the network treated its number one star with such disdain. She noted that Carlson helped the network succeed through one of its most turbulent periods, which included the dismissal of long-time CEO Roger Ailes and the loss of two of the network’s top stars, Bill O’Reilly, and herself.

The reason behind Carlson’s departure from Fox News is a subject of speculation, with some claiming that it is due to the Murdoch family’s preparations to sell the network. Others, like O’Reilly, believe that Carlson was fired because the network is facing a slew of lawsuits related to the 2020 election. Fox News recently settled a lawsuit with Dominion and agreed to pay out $787 million. The network also has an ongoing lawsuit filed by former Fox News booker Abby Grossberg.

While the reason behind Carlson’s departure remains uncertain, Fox News has undoubtedly taken a hit in ratings, which Kelly described as a “bloodbath.” Former CNN media analyst Brian Stelter posted some numbers on Twitter that show a drop in viewership for Carlson’s former time slot, 8 p.m. EDT. He claims that viewership numbers dropped from 2.65 million on Friday – Carlson’s final show – to 2.59 million on Monday, 1.70 million on Tuesday, and 1.33 million on Wednesday.

Kelly pointed out that Friday night prime-time numbers are not representative because they are typically among the lowest of the week. She said that viewership for Carlson’s last Monday and Tuesday compared to this week’s Monday and Tuesday showed a significant drop of HALF their audience.
