WASHINGTON, DC – On October 13th, the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol incident voted in favor of issuing a subpoena for former President Donald Trump to come testify before the committee and provide “relevant documents” that the committee may request.

And while BlueAnons and those who’ve made hating Trump their entire personality find this to be the proverbial big one with the often-mocked chants of “this is it,” “the walls are closing in,” and “let’s fucking go,” the reality is this development is (as CNN regular Van Jones’ infamously said in 2017) a nothing-burger.

It has now been over 21 months – nearly two years at this point – since the incident at the Capitol transpired, yet this charade being conducted by the January 6 committee carries on. And at this stage of the matter, there really isn’t any discernable reason to continue conducting the January 6 committee hearings in the manner they’ve been done thus far short of for partisan political points to behoove Democrats.

But Democrats and RINOs leading the crusade of the January 6 committee hearings opted to pull seemingly one last big reveal before the midterms in November: voting to subpoena documents and testimony from Trump himself.

The entire stunt reeks of desperation on the part of Democrats while feeding their fervent anti-Trump base that little morsel of copium – and the move to subpoena Trump will, ultimately, amount to a whole lot of nothing.

The Entirety Of The January 6 Committee Hearings Are A Pointless Charade

This is a concept that cannot be stressed enough: the January 6 committee hearings are nothing more than performative theater in the realm of partisan politics. The televised hearings being conducted by these members of Congress are only a few steps removed from some scripted primetime TV drama. Hell, the January 6 committee literally hired “veteran TV executive” James Goldston to produce the hearings for television.

Frankly, the only thing missing from these hearings is that trademark Law & Order “dun-dun” sound played in between scenes, because these January 6 hearings are merely serving up a niche form of primetime entertainment for the folks who get a Viagra-induced stiffy and gleefully snicker every time they hear “orange man bad.”

Employing just an iota of critical thinking toward the January 6 committee hearings would lead a reasonable person to such a conclusion, as every hearing has consisted of the same core ingredients: people saying the Capitol incident was bad, some spiel about democracy is at stake, someone who was once in proximity of Trump trashing him, and then collective crying about the existence of skeptics of the 2020 election who are simply voicing their concerns.

Throughout the entire televised process of the committee endeavors, the hearings have played out like some cheesy must see TV nonsense akin to 1980s and 90s series where viewers were left with a “to be continued…” cliffhanger at the end of the latest episode. But the proverbial season finale of these performative exploits of the House select committee aren’t going to end on a 1980s TV trope of a freeze-frame with all the anti-Trump acolytes jumping for joy.

Because when the House select committee stops beating this dead horse and accepts that the televised hearings are finally done, it’ll be just that – done. There’s no prize at the bottom of the proverbial cereal box that is the January 6 committee hearings, no matter how much fans of the farce want there to be.

And that’s because…

No One Is Going To Jail Or Prison As A Direct Result Of These Hearings

In all of the dramatic installments of the televised January 6 committee hearings, one has yet to see anyone get hauled away in cuffs following any sort of delivered testimony, nor has any one person’s testimony served as a smoking gun leading to another’s arrest.

Aside from individuals who refuse to participate in the testimony/documents process when subpoenaed by the January 6 committee (i.e., Steve Bannon), this committee isn’t sending anyone to jail nor is it uncovering anything of real relevance that can lead to criminal prosecution.

Sure, the committee can compel someone to testify under oath, and whoever is placed before the committee against their wishes can play their own game of pleading the Fifth Amendment (much like what Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward did earlier in 2022) and refuse to answer the committee’s questions.

There are, of course, those who’ve played along with delivering deep-winded testimony before the January 6 committee, with those individuals being among the sort who either see it expedient politically or career-wise, typically offering a heaping serving of talking points like “it was an insurrection” and alluding to Trump being “dangerous to democracy.”

But no matter how much these anti-Trump folks word-vomit before the House select committee when rendering their testimony, none of what they say is going to lead to any criminal prosecutions for anybody – and that includes Trump. Despite news outlets often framing the latest January 6 committee testimony as being some kind of a “bombshell,” it’s typically just someone sharing their opinion on the Capitol incident or introducing hearsay before the House select committee.

While the committee bears subpoena powers to command someone’s appearance, the proceedings are a far cry from any kind of standards associated with the criminal justice system or courtroom procedures, and much of the questioning employed by congressmembers and answers delivered by witnesses wouldn’t even be able to be used or introduced in a court of law.

And the reality is that this committee isn’t going to uncover or expose anything it would hope to find (as in, something against Trump) that hasn’t already been zealously pursued by the Department of Justice.

Rest assured, if there was some gigantic, criminal conspiracy waged by Trump at the center of the Capitol incident, the Department of Justice would’ve already got the wheels turning on that back in 2021. To date, the Department of Justice has levied charges against nearly 920 people over the Capitol incident, and the biggest thing they are tinkering with against the former president is a dispute over whether or not he retained documents that should’ve been in the custody of the National Archives.

The Purpose Of The Hearings Has Always Been About The Midterms

When one looks at the timing of when the televised January 6 committee hearings kicked off, it’s hard not to draw the conclusion that the effort has always been about saving the midterms for Democrats and maintaining a hold on Congress.

The first televised hearing hit the air in June of 2022, affording enough time to potentially impact public opinion in both critical primaries and the midterm elections slated for November 8th.

History has shown that the sitting president’s political party (in this case, Democrats) almost always suffers during the midterms, and Democrats are seemingly hoping that keeping the Capitol incident in the news cycle in the lead-up to the midterms could soften the looming blow coming in November.

And with just over four weeks to go until voting day hits for the 2022 midterms, Democrats opted for the Hail Mary play in the January 6 committee hearings to call for Trump’s testimony – a sign of Democrats’ desperation to salvage what some foresee as an abysmal looking midterm for Joe Biden’s party. The fact of the matter is that this last ditch effort by Democrats just isn’t going to work out in their favor.
